Yara Agbaria

Tel Aviv University, Israel

Yara Agbaria finished her PhD at the Sagol School for Neurosciences at Tel Aviv University, specializing in pain modulation mechanisms. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology with an emphasis on Neuroscience from Tel Aviv University, where she further pursued a master’s degree in clinical Neuroscience. Yara recently completed her PhD in Neuroscience, investigating the effects of THC (tetrahydrocannabinoid) on pain modulation mechanisms, with a particular focus on Conditioned Pain Modulation (CPM) and offset analgesia in fibromyalgia. In her research, Yara employs a multifaceted approach utilizing fMRI, sensory tests, questionnaires, and autonomic measurements to elucidate the behavioural and neural effects of cannabinoids on pain perception. Her work aims to advance our understanding of chronic pain conditions and explore potential therapeutic interventions involving cannabinoids. Through her research journey, Yara won the Israeli Pain Association Award for Excellent Pain Research, and she is passionate about bridging the gap between clinical neuroscience and practical pain management strategies. Yara will be presenting her latest findings on “The Role of Cannabinoids in Pain Modulation in fibromyalgia”.
